Kayla Harvey ~ My Senior Story

Trinity High School is special to me because it has had a significant role in building the person I am today—someone who is strong, confident, resilient, kind, and courageous. I was going to transfer my freshman year but every day Trinity reminds me of why I’m happy I stayed. From academics to extracurriculars, events, and the community, Trinity has built a safe space where I have proudly excelled in all aspects of my student life. I especially love that from the moment we enter these halls, we are taught how to be proud, confident, and trust ourselves in a world where we as women can be underestimated.

Before Posse, I always planned to attend a Big Ten or Pac-12 school because not only do I love college football, but most of the schools I had my eye on had amazing academics. Never did I imagine that I would be going to an Ivy League school because, in all honesty, I didn’t think I would fit in academically or would even be accepted into one. I went through long, competitive interviews that started from the beginning of my senior year, around November, to earning the Posse Scholarship in January. Posse proved me wrong by showing that I am more than capable of attending Cornell University. I’m happy that the Trinity community, my family, and the Posse Foundation saw what I was struggling to see inside of myself. Now, I can say that I am fully confident in my abilities to not only attend but excel at Cornell.

Trinity is special to me because high school is one of the eras in your life where your personality is developing the most. It’s a time when your aspirations bloom and your passions become known. It’s also a time when you start to find yourself. My advice is to use this time to experiment, go to that sports tryout, join that club, write an excerpt in the Blaze, audition for a role in that play/musical!! Any sliver of a passion you have, explore that! Trinity is a place where you are not shamed for trying new things; in fact, it is highly encouraged. Never be ashamed to be yourself! Don't forget to be kind to yourself if something doesn’t work out, not everyone is perfect! As long as you do your best, that’s all that matters.
