Daniela Olmos ~ My Senior Story

Because of Trinity I am no longer the girl that is afraid to challenge myself and try new things. By taking International Baccalaureate classes, being a member of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society I now know that I can push myself to my full potential. I have also learned that trying new things helped expand my interests. For instance, my counselor put me down for a dance class that I did not want to take and was dreading. I tried talking to my counselor to see if there were other classes I could take instead of dance, but it was the only elective that fit my schedule therefore I had to stay in the class. I complained to my mom for a good week or two about it and how it was pointless. Much to my surprise I soon realized I was actually enjoying the class. I might not actually be doing dance anytime soon in my life but I was able to develop stronger friendships with those classmates while having fun. I experienced this on several occasions such as when I was on the volleyball team, basketball team, soccer and cross country and ended up loving it and creating new bonds and friendships within each team. These activities helped build my confidence and increase my interest in trying things outside of my comfort zone. At the end of the day I ended up enjoying the experiences and left with new friends and memories. Memories that will always be close to my heart. Attending an all girls environment allowed me to be myself. I was able to see women taking part in leadership, see girls excel in athletics and academics and being recognized for it. This also made spirit week better because at coed schools you usually see the boys participating in the games rather than the girls but at Trinity the girls were the ones competing against each other and that made it much more fun. In retrospect I wish I would have listened to people who warned me that high school would breeze by because I would have appreciated period 3B in Senora’s room, doing zumba in Spanish class, and sitting at the lunch table with my friends a little bit more. I most definitely wish I could have another go at The Just Because Games and end senior year with all my classmates.
