Speculative Nonfiction

Participants will explore how imagination can deepen and complicate true stories, and discover that nonfiction doesn’t have to be straightforward; it can leap across time, borrow from other genres, and invite both the reader and the writer into something unexpected.

Through a writer’s workshop format, participants will experiment with techniques including interviewing, written collage, and creative use of memory. Each day includes the opportunity to generate new work, readings that serve as inspiration, and opportunities to share work and receive both peer and instructor feedback.

By the end of the week, participants will have 3–4 drafted stories, a customized reading list for continued exploration, and a stronger, more individual writing list. No prior creative writing experience is required!
