Hailey Mendez ~ My Senior Story
Trinity High School is special to me because of the close-knit community that is formed here. I have always been a loner-kind of person, and while I still enjoy my own company, by the end of senior year, I found myself surrounded by new friends who love me, say hi to me, and call me over to sit with them. We talk when we can during classes, and if not, we say a quick greeting in the hallways on the way to our next class - never skipping a chance when we do see each other. Outside of the classroom and in the liturgy, I have made friends who share deep connections with their faith, and we uplift one another, while also joking around, when things start to become frustrating. These friends have made Trinity special to me because even during times when I hated Trinity (just as any teenager would during her high school years), they made it easier for me to step onto campus and look forward to the day ahead. Additionally, the connection I have with some of my teachers and the faculty members is amazing; I love saying hi to them when I can, and I'm so happy to know they are some of my best cheerleaders. The community Trinity has is unmatched, and I hope I can find that at Dominican!
My advice to Future Trinity Blazers, this is the school you want to go to in order to prosper as a young woman. The environment, the small but mighty community, and the faith formation that occurs are everything a girl needs in order to get out into the world as an empowered woman. It sounds cheesy that an all-girls' school is special, but the truth is it is. You find better focus in an environment where girls have to take the lead rather than sitting back. The close-knit community that comes together strong for school spirit weeks, for sports games, or for when difficult times occur is something unmatched and powerful. The faith that is nurtured here in your religion classes or during liturgy is beautiful when you participate wholly, and even if you don't practice or practice another faith, you still find valuable lessons on how to be a human who is considerate, compassionate, and who loves. If you want all of that, Trinity High School is the place for you.
At the beginning of junior year, I started to look for colleges I could consider. One of the very first colleges I thought of was Dominican University since it was near Trinity. At first, I just assumed because of its distance and the good things I heard about it, I'd end up there with almost no choice. After touring the campus and learning more about the environment, I fell absolutely in love with the university. I knew it was going to be my top choice since then. Heck, even my whole family loved it! I ended up only applying to two schools throughout my college decision journey: Dominican University and UIC (my mom's alma mater). I got into both, but Dominican always felt like the better fit, so I finally committed there.
