Clare Birmingham~My Senior Story
Now you might think that having a great-grandma, a grandma and a mom that are all Trinity graduates would preclude my choice of choosing where I would go to high school, but you would be wrong! I was given the room to make my own choice and I picked Trinity, because the moment I walked through the doors for a shadow day I could sense that there was something special here. It wasn’t any ONE thing, just a feeling deep down inside of me that Trinity was a place that gave you time to grow up, learn and mature at your own pace. I liked that the girls looked like themselves, wore their hair different ways and most of all smiled and laughed and joked around so much. I tend to be one of those quiet kids that stays on the edge but observes everything that is going on around me, even when you think I am not paying attention at all. But the Trinity family did notice me and embraced me for who I am. For four years I was involved in both the musicals and plays at Trinity and was inducted into the International Thespians Honor Society. Being involved in the theatre let me become different characters and surprise people by letting them see another facet of my personality. My love of art was shaped and molded in the IB Art program and I was inducted into the National Art Honor Society. And even though I didn’t know how to bowl, I tried out for the Bowling Team my freshman year and four years later was still part of the team having improved every year! Through classes, activities and teams, girls at Trinity grow their minds, their spirits, their friendships and their confidence. Every experience is helping each of us Blazers to be prepared for the next step in our journey. And just when you think that you are ready for the next step, life can throw you a major curve ball – in the Class of 2020’s case, a novel virus called Covid-19 – and suddenly, things may not be as certain. But because Trinity stresses the importance of finding your own path and exploring lots of options to help you find your strengths, I felt confident choosing a road less likely traveled. This Fall, instead of starting at a four year university, I will be part of the Triton’s Scholars Program as a recipient of a Triton Trustee Honors Scholarship at Triton College in River Grove. This two year program will allow me time to figure out what passion I want to pursue during this uncertain time. I know that the education I received and the confidence I have gained from my four years at Trinity will help me immensely as we all look at a new way of living and learning because of a global pandemic. Trinity is an awesome place! It unleashes exceptionally strong, bright, talented and confident women who are not afraid to use the gifts that God has given each one of them to make a difference in the world. I am extremely proud to be a fourth generation Trinity girl!
