eRead Illinois – Trinity’s Digital Library of Recreational Reads

Trinity High School, an International Baccalaureate school for young women, is participating in the eRead Illinois Program, designed to increase access to e-books across Illinois. Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) and Reaching Across Illinois Library System(RAILS) have partnered with the Illinois State Library and Baker & Taylor to provide this access through Ais 360. eRead Illinois is a two year statewide program designed to increase access to e-books for Illinois residents and grow e-book expertise among library staff, library system staff, and Illinois residents. Initial funding for eRead Illinois was provided by a grant from Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White through the Illinois State Library.

Axis 360 is a digital media platform providing libraries and their patrons with a state-of-the-art system for circulating digital e-books from the eRead Illinois shared collection for Illinois libraries. Patrons at libraries participating in eRead Illinois will use the cloud-based delivery across a number of devices including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows, NOOK® and Sony ReaderTM devices, and many more. At Trinity High School, students and faculty are able to check out Nooks from the Library and download the books of their choice both at school and at home.

Trinity has invested heavily in non-fiction digital resources for its students, according to Molly Klowden, Director of the Trinity Library. “Axis 360 now allows our students to access a wide range of literature and recreational fiction in both English and Spanish. This is in line with the International Baccalaureate strong emphasis on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.”

Once again Mrs. Susie Bedell moderated the poetry fest. Faculty presenters included Sra. Tamariz Irlanda, Mr. Sean Patrick Loesch, Mrs. Julia Buckley, Mrs. Kate Absher, and Mrs. Tara Suchland. Seniors Julia Sloan and Aenea Luss each performed for the fourth straight year.
