President of Trinity High School, Sr. Michelle Germanson, OP, said “I am thrilled to see the hard work of all of our students and theatre director come to fruition in this amazing original musical! This has been a wonderful experience for all involved.”

Since the fall of 2012, the Trinity High School Fine and Performing Arts Department has incorporated the creation of an original musical into the fine arts curriculum. The final product is culminating in a ninety minute original musical “TRAIN”. In addition to the performances held at Trinity High School November 21-23, the department and cast hopes to send the original student-written musical to the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in January 2015. Selection for the state festival occurs in late November. The development of this production demonstrates Trinity’s deep commitment to the arts and the emergence of Trinity High School as a Premier arts school in the Midwest.

Throughout the 2012-2013 school year, multiple classes were involved in the creation of the 2014 musical. Students were encouraged to develop small projects, some of which have been collaboratively incorporated into the musical. In these courses, students learned how to develop individual and collaborative performance projects using improvisation, video, script writing, dance and character and scene development.

The development and production of “TRAIN” has been led by Trinity High School Fine and Performing Arts teacher, Azizi Marshall. Ms. Marshall brings over 20 years of progressive and innovative theatre with youth throughout the world. She has directed over 100 original musicals and plays and is the Founder and Director of Creative Clinical Consulting, a training center for expressive arts therapists, social service workers, educators and artists in creative arts therapy.
