(River Forest, IL) the Trinity High School Performing Arts Department is proud to present their Spring Play set in the Iron Age of Ireland. In that early era, there were goddess and gods of all kinds, including the raven goddesses of war. In The Morrigan, Chicago playwright Amy Crider (https://sites.google.com/a/amycrider.com/amy-crider-com/) recounts the stories of an ancient hero named Cuchulainn, who could be thought of as a complex and twisted Irish Beowulf. The legends of Cuchulainn were collected by Lady Augusta Gregory in the early 1900’s, and she published several books on this ancient lore. Amy Crider adapted some of this text, along with Thomas Kinsella’s translation of The Tain, Ireland’s great epic poem.
Director Pat Henderson is thrilled to present the World Premiere of this original production which gives students the unique opportunity to debut this original work and to collaborate directly with the playwright during the rehearsal process.
The story features powerful women as warrior queens, something not often found in Western Literature. The cast has also had the unique opportunity of working with a certified stage combat trainer to add another dimension of intensity and authenticity to the production.
Performances will be held in the Trinity Theater, located at 7574 W. Division.
