A TREE GROWS IN RIVER FOREST
Students Plant for Beautification of School Trinity High School Student Council and Environmental Club recently joined friend of Trinity, local resident and business owner Mark Kelty of Kelty Landscaping in River Forest to work on some final stages of the new athletic facility along with the beautification of the surrounding property. Selecting and Planting Together the students and Mr. Kelty planted an assortment of Maples, Lindens and Cleveland Selects. These trees were selected because they are an excellent street tree and are a great choice for urban landscape. The Maples and Lindens with beautiful fall colors will reach a mature height of 40-50 feet. The Cleveland Selects on Division Street will have a dense white flowering in the early spring and a purple fall coloring with a mature height of 30 feet. Mr. Kelty explained to the students, “Trees are always good for the community and the environment while at the same time help to soften the look of the buildings, so they blend into the landscape.” Freshman Lauren Spanski of LaGrange said, “Trinity is a new beginning for me, I am very excited to be a part of the Trinity High School community and to be involved with the planting of these new trees.” The girls in the Environmental Club are also responsible for planting flowers outside the building each spring, bin recycling for each classroom, posters inside the school containing information on global problems and adopting an animal each year at a local zoo. Environmental Club moderator Eileen O’Brian said, “The students did a great job, our new trees are beautiful, and they are a wonderful addition to the school and the environment.” |
