On Friday, April 27th thirty members from Trinity High School’s class of 2010 participated in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life of Oak Park and River Forest”. The Relay for Life is a twelve hour “walk” that is a unique, empowering and fun way to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Held at Concordia University, the Trinity Team joined other community teams in raising money and awareness in the fight against cancer by “relaying” around a track throughout the night. At the time of the event the Trinity Team had raised over $5,300 for the American Cancer Society and student Karina LaBarbera was honored for placing second among 700 walkers in individual fundraising efforts. Each team created a “Movie Theme” and Trinity High School received honorable mention for their “If We Can Find Nemo, We can Find a Cure” theme and banner. The evening was a great success as the entire event raised over $74,000 for the American Cancer Society. Throughout the evening, the students participated in a variety of events including a late night Bingo competition and a “Mummy” lap in which students walked a lap of the course wrapped head to toe in toilet paper. Highlights of the event included Godiva chocolate and Chipotle deliveries, visits from the Mix 101.9 FM and an Elvis impersonator. Student also had an opportunity for prayer and reflection during the Luminaria Lighting Service honoring those who have survived, lost and are currently engaged in the battle with cancer. The event was one to remember and the Team is already making plans to participate in next year’s event!!
