Trinity Students Celebrate Columbus Day

Trinity students recently participated in the Columbus Day Parade on behalf of Together4You, an a consortium of St. Scholastica Academy, Queen of Peace High School, Trinity High School, Regina Dominican High School, Notre Dame High School for Girls, Josephinum High School, and the Madonna Foundation. The group was officially launched in October 2002 with a common goal of helping young women prepare for a successful, balanced life in college and society and promoting the positive benefits an all-girls education as a choice for parents and students today. According to a recent study of students attending all-girls high schools in the Chicagoland area, young women not only prefer learning in a single-gender environment but also feel it better prepares them for success in college and beyond. Each of the Together4You schools share a common belief that we offer young women a high-quality educational experience, provide them with leadership opportunities and encourage their personal and spiritual growth. The girls themselves have expressed the benefits of attending a single-gender high school to include: having a competitive “edge” for college, the ability to express themselves more effectively, additional opportunities to excel in math and science, the lack of peer pressure and bullying and the freedom to just be themselves.

Together4You schools remain committed to building awareness among 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade girls attending both public and private schools about the important contribution an all girl environment provides during the pivotal high school years. Together4You has hosted events for grade school girls including a symposium at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago featuring prominent alumna of its schools including Illinois First Lady Patricia Blagojevich, Carol Owens, Associate Coach of Women’s Basketball at the University of Notre Dame and Ellen Jordan Reidy, President and Founder of America’s Food Technologies. The speakers addressed their personal experiences attending an all-girls high school and how it better prepared them for college and beyond.

This Spring, we will be promoting women in science through an event at the Museum of Science and Industry where 75 of our target students will be invited to tour the museum with our own students as docents and participate in interactive labs pertinent to adolescence.
