About IB

If you want to challenge yourself academically, and thrive in an all-girls environment...
• If you want to balance academics and other activities...
• If you are highly motivated...
• If you want to stretch your mind... the IB program at Trinity is the place for you.

In 1994, Trinity began offering the acclaimed International Baccalaureate program to academically talented and motivated students. We are the first women's high school in Illinois to receive the academic distinction of being accepted into the distinguished International Baccalaureate Organization.

Trinity High School is affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization so that we may offer our academically talented and motivated students a rigorous, challenging curriculum. One hundred and twenty four countries are home to approximately 1,895 authorized IB world schools at this time. There are over 1,000 in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Over 180 nationalities are represented in the organization worldwide.

The International Baccalaureate curriculum is designed for juniors and seniors who choose to follow the full diploma program or select particular subjects of study as certificate candidates. The full diploma program centers on six subject areas, three of which are studied on the higher level and three others on the standard level. Diploma candidates are required to perform 150 community service hours, write a 4000 word essay on a topic of interest, and take a course entitled Theory of Knowledge which aims to integrate learning and thinking across the curriculum. For more about the IB features click here. Students may enroll in both college preparatory courses and in IB courses such as English, foreign language, history, biology, chemistry, math studies, math methods, art and ITGS (Information Technology in a Global Society). Many certificate candidates enroll in a maximum of five IB courses and like their diploma colleagues have the opportunity to receive college credit for their achievement in these courses.

Trinity currently has 56% of its student body enrolled in IB or pre-IB classes. Students who excel in specific subject areas may choose to enroll in pre-IB and IB classes as their honors courses. Students who remain enrolled in the full IB program during their junior and senior years are eligible to test for the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma, one that is recognized by colleges and universities as a most distinguished preparatory program for university studies. Students who receive an International Baccalaureate Diploma or Certificate may be eligible to earn college credit.

Why IB?
• The IB Diploma Program is a globally recognized honors curriculum. Many colleges and universities award credit upon exam results.
• The goal of the IB experience is to go beyond intellectual rigor and high academic standards and to enable students to become conscious of the shared humanity that binds all people while respecting the variety of cultures and attitudes that makes for the richness of life. Strong emphasis is placed on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.
• At Trinity, IB classes are offered in: English Language and World Literature, History of the Americas, 20th Century Topics, Spanish or French, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Art Design and Information Technology in a Global Society.

Statistically speaking...
• Nationally, 80% of the students who try for the IB Diploma receive it. Trinity's overall success rate is 90%.
Trinity's IB test scores are once again above the 80% global average. Over the past 10 years 90% of our full IB students earned the prestigious IB Diploma which requires testing in six subject areas and completion of the CAS, TOK and Extended Essay components.
